One Person. Every Aspect of Production.
Peter Forras, owner and founder of XTM Performance, commissioned David to produce a brand film celebrating the company’s history, people, products and growing Australian and global presence. XTM Performance is a leading ski, snowboard and outdoor brand, and an official supplier to the Australian Winter Olympic and Snow World Cup squads. Its products are also worn and used by athletes, sportspeople and outdoor enthusiasts around the world.
David provided a complete, full-service production package, personally managing every stage of the project from concept through to final delivery. Working closely with Peter to ensure historical and product accuracy, David was responsible for concept development, scripting and storyboarding, directing, filming, lighting, voice-over recording, editing, post-production and delivery.
The project also included the creation of a television commercial, which aired on Channel 9 during the Milano Winter Olympics, as well as a complete suite of ‘XTM Winter Olympics Competition’ social media content produced in multiple formats and aspect ratios for digital platforms.
The result was a comprehensive brand campaign that brought together XTM Performance’s heritage, people, products and international presence across broadcast, digital and social channels.
Bringing XTM’s History to Life from 1945 to 2026
XTM provided a beautiful collection of historic family photographs and Super 8 footage dating back to 1953 at Mount Buller, together with a selection of footage from previous productions commissioned by the company across the globe. David was able to draw on this material to help tell the story.
David filmed approximately 70% of the film himself, shooting across a range of locations including XTM’s headquarters in Torquay, Mount Buller, Canberra, Geelong, Bells Beach and 13th Beach.
David also used AI imaging to animate a small selection of historic family photographs of the Peters family, maps created by Art Director ‘Cambo’, and one photograph looking across the ocean at night towards Torquay. These AI photo-to-video clips were reviewed by Peter for historical and family accuracy and were approved.
The AI-generated animation from existing still images represents approximately 4% of the finished film. There is zero regenerative AI from prompts alone.
David also incorporated a small number of clips from RAPT TV stock footage, including dolphins leaping from the face of a wave and crossing paths with one another, a sunrise beach runner and surfer, and sunsets filmed across various Surf Coast and Bellarine beaches. This cinematic material was carefully woven into the story to enhance the atmosphere and elevate the positive, aspirational feel of the film
XTM Performance — A ‘Full Service’ Brand Film’ by David Spurdens
The XTM Performance project demonstrates David’s ability to take a complete production from conception through to final delivery — including a brand film, TVC and a full suite of social media content.
David manages every stage of the process, including TVC pre-approval and obtaining the final clearance number from Ad Standards’ ClearAds system. He also works closely with Ben Rasmussen, a Tier One motion graphics artist whose credits include Disney and Discovery Channel. Together, they can deliver complete projects from concept to final delivery, either as a standalone production team or as part of an existing creative or marketing team.
The motion graphics for the XTM film were created entirely from scratch by Ben, without the use of AI.
As demonstrated in the XTM film, David can also work with existing footage and use AI-assisted editing techniques to intelligently weave additional material into the edit, helping strengthen the narrative and communicate the story more effectively.
The result is a creative, collaborative and enjoyable production process — and a beautiful, considered film that helps a company, charity or organisation communicate what makes it unique.
